An eagle’s eye view of the West Elm Stone Tile Rug reveals this super cool, intricate pattern of lines and blocks, but you don’t need to be far away to appreciate this more than attractive member of the West Elm lineup. In fact, the first time I saw it in a West Elm store I was mesmerized by the simple criss crossing of the lines and remember thinking “wow, now this is a good looking rug”. Not something I say every day, but West Elm does tend to do well in the rug design department.

It comes in both a “Slate” (gray with blueish black patterns) and “Burnt Orange” (grayish orange with orange patterns), but we are bigger fans of the Slate for its clear adaptability in any decor situation.

Great, so it’s good looking… but looks aren’t everything, and we wanted to put this rug to the test.

For starters, build quality seems more than apt. It’s 100% wool but very low pile and lacking a knotted weave means it’s going to be pretty easy to clean without damaging. It’s a medium thickness: Not so thin you need a rug pad, not so plump it’s going to offer your feet the pampering we know they deserve, but it’s comfortable to stand and walk on.

Further, we haven’t noticed any side fraying which is very common with West Elm rugs, nor shedding despite the standard shedding warnings on their website. The robot vacuum tackles this rug with ease and makes it look good as new in a jiffy (a regular vacuum will do the trick as well). Granted, since both colors are lighter, if you put this rug in a high traffic area it’s likely to show dirt pretty fast, so we’d recommend keeping it out of mud’s way. Problematically, when it does show dirt, it suffers considerably in its appearance

Being priced at $399 for a 5’x8′ to $1,199 for the 9’12’ puts it at an average price point for other West Elm rugs but we like this a bit better than much of the catalog. We know that materials-wise this isn’t going to be top notch but it’s as good as you’re going to get at this price while looking this good.
