Chairs without arms are always a little suspicious. A chair should be comfortable, and arms flailing about or being unsure of themselves can make that hard. At a dining table, you have forks and knives to keep you busy… but in a living room / accent chair? It’s a different story.

The Wire Frame Slipper Chair by West Elm tries to make up for this with its extra wide cushion, and honestly, it works. Both the back and seat cushions are firm, but in a comfortable, supportive way, making it a great chair for what chairs are meant to be for: Sitting in.

Quality:

The construction quality is pretty above par for West Elm as well, with a welded metal frame screwed into the chair in a square braced frame beneath. We wouldn’t expect any issues with this failing or wearing down over time. The finish on the iron legs is powder-coated, and so we don’t expect to see any obvious or upsetting signs of wear such as chipping.

The one drawback we’ve noticed is that the fabric (ours is the Horseradish Flannel) does loosen a but, but it’s thin enough that you can just kind of pat it back into place and keep the chair looking tidy with minimal effort.

Style:

Though simplistic, this is definitely an area this chair is doing no wrong in. Due to the wide cushion / no arms thing, it offers the appeal of being an obvious accent chair while maintaining a smaller footprint, making it ideal as either a main feature for smaller spaces or great additional seating in a larger space. We love the slightly greater than 90 degree angle and low profile which offers a really fresh, modern vibe. We do wish it came in more fabric options, especially in the “flannel” which as of writing this article only comes in a sort of retro pink or mustard color.

Value:

Decent construction and hip-to-be-square style — all this and no flailing, confused arms. In fact, they just sort of settle nicely into your lap. At $299 and sometimes on sale for around $150-200, we’re very into this chair and think it’s one of the better buys at West Elm.
