The West Elm Deco Tiles Rug comes in 2 different colors, “Crystal Sand” (brown) and “Shimmer Blue” (Blue). Both look less than impressive in photos, but actually have a really sophisticated and beautiful appeal in person thanks to the dual-textured weave and complexity of the slight variations in square panels the rug is made up of.
While because we do love the way this rug looks in person we wanted to love it overall, it has some pain points.
For one, it’s very thin and would need a rug pad if you wanted to get any sort of comfort feel out of it. Second, while we love the pattern & the textures, we think they’re also the reason this rug seems to catch a lot of hairs and fibers within it. Additionally we’d be worried that it might be tougher to clean because of the textural differences, but since it is pretty thin this may be a non-issue.
It seems to wear ok though frays a bit on the edges. It vacuums easily enough but because it’s a bit of a dirt magnet does need frequent vacuuming. Luckily due to its thinness, a robot vacuum could make this a lot easier on you!
At $499-$1,399 it’s a bit pricey within the West Elm catalog. We recommend it in a low traffic area and preferably a house without pets, or if you’re prepared to clean it regularly, but we also recommend waiting for a sale where you will sometimes see up to 50% off.
